Abstract:
A história da civilização está escrita de diversas formas, como pinturas em cavernas e registros antigos, mas no período das grandes navegações a cartografia teve seu apogeu. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho teve por objetivos identificar e avaliar, em duas instituições da cidade de Rio Grande/RS, a Biblioteca Rio-Grandense e a Biblioteca da Superintendência do Porto de Rio Grande (SUPRG), as formas de preservação e conservação do acervo cartográfico, bem como o tratamento técnico e sua divulgação. Segundo os objetivos foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória, pois busca melhor aproximação do problema, sendo que os dados foram de natureza quali/quantitativa. Como instrumento de coleta de dados foi utilizado um questionário, com perguntas abertas e fechadas, com um roteiro previamente formulado nas instituições e recorrendo as fontes bibliográficas sobre o tema. O questionário foi aplicado nas duas instituições, e a coleta dos dados foi desenvolvida conforme as seguintes etapas: visitação do local a ser pesquisado; agendamento dos dias; aplicação do questionário nas instituições; observação direta do pesquisador que permitiu verificar a sistemática das instituições, no local do acervo cartográfico. Neste trabalho foi adotado o método empírico, sendo confeccionados gráficos e tabelas baseados nas respostas dos questionários e nas visitas nas duas instituições. Buscou-se na literatura o embasamento sobre o tema proposto, para avaliar como as instituições adotavam medidas de prevenção e conservação do seus acervos cartográficos, e a forma de tratamento técnico. Os resultados da pesquisa revelaram que nas duas instituições, em relação ao acervo cartográfico, as medidas de conservação são as de pequenos reparos e higienização. Quanto ao tratamento técnico do acervo, na Biblioteca Rio-Grandense é através das fichas cartográficos, e na SUPRG é feita através do catálogo de índice. Os documentos (plantas) na SUPRG, estão sendo feitos digitalmente. O acervo impresso são mantidos na Rio-Grandense em móveis de madeira e na SUPRG em metal. Ao serem questionadas quanto a digitalização destes acervos, como forma de preservação e conservação ao material impresso, e desta forma estariam disponibilizando o acervo para um público mais amplo, afirmaram que sim, embora as instituições no momento não estão disponibilizando digitalmente esses documentos, mas sim futuramente. Assim como os exemplos citados neste trabalho, a digitalização do acervo cartográfico em instituições como a Biblioteca Nacional (BN) e Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisas Agropecuária (EMBRAPA), mostra uma tendência de como disponibilizar estes acervo em outro formato (digital), bem como preservar e conservar o material impresso. Observou-se também a necessidade de um maior intercâmbio com a Universidade local, bem como na divulgação do acervo cartográfico, devido a importância que essas duas instituições representam para sociedade.
The history of the civilization is written in several ways, as paintings in caves and old registrations, but in the period of the great navigations the cartography had its apogee. In this way, the present work has for objectives to identify and to evaluate, in two institutions of Rio Grande/RS's city, Rio-Grandense Library and the Library of the Superintendência of Porto of Rio Grande (SUPRG), the preservation forms and conservation of the cartographic collection, as well as the technical treatment and its popularization. According to the objectives, an exploratory research was performed, because it looked for the better approach of the problem, and the data were of quali/quantitativa nature. As data collection instrument was used a questionnaire, with open and closed questions, with an itinerary previously formulated in the institutions and according to the literature on the theme. The questionnaire was applied in the two institutions, and the data collection was developed on the following steps: visitation of the place to be researched; the days programming; application of the questionnaire in the institutions; the researcher's direct observation that it allowed to verify the systematic of the institutions, in the place of the cartographic collection. In this work the empiric method was adopted, building graphs and tables which were based in the answers of the questionnaires and in the visits in the two institutions. It was researched information in the literature onto the proposed theme for to evaluate as the institutions adopted the methods of prevention and conservation of its cartographic collections, and the form of technical treatment. The results of the research led to that in the two institutions, in relation to the cartographic collection, the conservation methods are only of small repairs and hygienization. As technical treatment of the collection, in the Library Rio-Grandense it is through the cartographic records, and in the SUPRG it is made through the index catalog. The documents (plants) in the SUPRG are being made by digitization. The collection printed are maintained in the Rio-Grandense in wood furniture and in the SUPRG in metal furniture. When they were questioned in relation to digitalization of these collections, as forms of preservation and conservation to the material of printed paper, and this way these would be available for a larger public, they affirmed that yes, although the institutions in the moment are not making available the digital form of those documents, but certain for a hereafter. As well the examples mentioned in this work, the digitization of the cartographic collection in institutions as the National Library (BN) and Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisas Agropecuária (EMBRAPA), it shows a tendency of how to make available these collection in another format (digital), as well as to preserve and to conserve the material of printed paper. It was also observed the need of a larger exchange with the local University, as well as in the popularization of the cartographic collection, due to importance that those two institutions act for society.
