Caracterização físico-química de efluentes de uma indústria de óleo vegetal

Abstract

A indústria de óleos vegetais da cidade de Pelotas foi pioneira e é a maior indústria de arroz do Brasil, tendo capacidade de processamento de 60.000 t/ano de farelo de arroz. A geração de efluentes líquidos industriais é um problema bastante complexo pois esse tipo de efluente pode ser constituído de diversas substâncias que podem vir a causar efeitos danosos ao meio ambiente e à saúde pública. A caracterização físico-química de uma água residuária nos traz informações quanto a sua toxicidade e seu potencial poluidor, e ainda permite a comparação com os padrões da legislação ambiental por meio do cálculo da carga poluidora. Este estudo teve como objetivo determinar as características físico-químicas do efluente de uma indústria de óleo vegetal da região de Pelotas, RS. As coletas ocorreram mensalmente. Os resultados mostraram a necessidade e a importância do tratamento do efluente estudado. Esse efluente, lançado no ambiente sem tratamento, poderá causar muitos problemas para a preservação da qualidade ambiental.

The vegetable oil industry in Pelotas (RS, Brazil) was pioneering and is the biggest of Brazil in this field. It is capable of processing 60.000 ton/year of rice bran. The effluent may have many substances, which may cause harmful effects to the environment and to public health. Physical-chemical characterization of wastewater may provide important information about its toxicity, its pollutant potential and the comparison with the standards of the environmental legislation through the calculation of the polluting load. The objective of this work was to assess the physical-chemical characteristics of the vegetable oil industry effluent in the region of Pelotas. The collections had occurred monthly. The results showed the necessity and importance of the effluent treatment. This effluent disposed in the environment with no treatment may cause many problems in the preservation of environmental quality.
