Abstract:
Relatamos os resultados de uma investigação piloto sobre as idéias de 25 estudantes de ensino médio a respeito do tema radiações, antes da instrução. As respostas mostram que os estudantes têm noções vagas e desarticuladas sobre radiações. A maioria já ouviu falar de raios X e de raios ultravioleta, mas não compreende seus efeitos nos organismos vivos, inclusive porque não sabem a diferença entre radiação ionizante e não-ionizante. Não têm clareza dos prejuízos e benefícios das radiações, desconhecendo boa parte de suas aplicações industriais. Aprenderam através da mídia sobre os perigos do Sol, como o câncer de pele, mas ignoram os perigos do bronzeamento artificial e o modo como a radiação pode afetar o meio ambiente. Estas concepções apontam a necessidade da construção de um conhecimento mais preciso e embasado sobre radiações em situação formal de aprendizagem. Mapas conceituais sobre radiações foram utilizados como instrumentos úteis na análise das concepções dos alunos e no planejamento curricular da unidade de aprendizagem.
We report the results of a pilot research on the ideas of 25 high school students about the radiation issue, before teaching. The answers show that students have vague not articulated notions about radiations. Most have heard X-ray and ultraviolet rays, but does not understand its effects on living organisms, including because they do not know the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. They have not clarity of the damage and benefits of radiation and ignored much of its industrial applications. They learned through the media about the danger of the sun exposure , such as skin cancer, but ignore the dangers of artificial tanning and how the radiation might affect the environment. These conceptions show the need for the construction of a more accurate knowledge on radiations in a formal learning situation. Concept maps about radiations were used as useful tools in the analysis of the students’ conceptions and for curricular planning.
