Teachers are discursively represented in many different genres. As social beings, teachers are sometimes portrayed as friends, as dictators, as easy-going people. Considering that movies contribute to the
social representation of teachers, in this text, I explore how teachers are discursively pictured in the movie ‘Dangerous Minds’ (1995). By analyzing the linguistic choices made in order to represent the teacher in this movie, I investigate the meanings made and I explore some of the implications of this discourse for the teaching community and for the education of teachers in general. |
