Interpretações de textos: algumas notas esparsas sobre a história do pensamento político

Abstract

A essência da argumentação desenvolvida neste ensaio está centrada no

desenvolvimento de alguns dos pressupostos teóricos elaborados pelo

historiador Quentin Skinner. Sem explorar os “modelos alternativos” de

interpretação de textos ou a análise das críticas ao contextualismo

linguístico, apresento e discuto apenas alguns elementos que compõem o

núcleo da teoria interpretativa de textos políticos, conforme formulada pelo

historiador inglês. Nesse sentido, avalio os pressupostos que o autor,

ainda hoje, julga necessários aos que se ocupam em perceber, nos textos

clássicos da política, as peculiaridades que nos separam da cosmovisão e

das formas de linguagem pertencentes a sociedades de tempos remotos.

After depicting the birth of the Cambridge historical school of political

thought, the analysis is focused on the development of some theoretical

assumptions created by one of its most representative followers: Quentin

Skinner. Unconcerned with the exposition of “alternative models” for text

interpretations or with the analysis of the criticism directed to linguistic

contextualism, this study reviews the key elements of the interpretative

theory of political texts, according to the English historian. In this sense, it

is discussed the assumptions that the author even today seems to deem

useful to those who are interested in noticing in classic Politics the

uniqueness that set us apart from the system of beliefs and normative vocabulary of the political societies lost in remote times.
