Abstract:
O presente ensaio objetiva fazer uma reflexão sobre liberdade e criminalidade
em regimes ditatoriais e democráticos ao longo do período republicano
brasileiro. Abordaremos em linhas gerais a estrutura da sociedade brasileira,
o crescimento da população e a expansão das cidades e outros elementos
que levaram à criminalidade aos índices que assustam a sociedade brasileira.
Posteriormente refletimos sobre a criminalidade em cada um desses “sistemas”
buscando compreender se a violência urbana é um fenômeno com maior
incidência em governos democráticos ou autoritários, ou se as questões
estruturais e conjunturais têm um peso superior do que o sistema político.
This essay aims to reflect on freedom and criminality in democratic and
dictatorial regimes throughout the Brazilian republican period. We will discuss
in general terms the structure of Brazilian society, population growth and the
expansion of cities and other elements that led to the crime rates that scare
Brazilian society. Later reflect on the crime in each of these “systems” and
trying to understand urban violence is a phenomenon with a higher incidence in
democratic or authoritarian governments, or if the structural and conjunctural
issues have a higher weight than the political system.
