Abstract:
O presente artigo se propõe a análisar, sob a perspectiva
da História da Literatura, o romance “A cidade e as serras” de Eça
de Queiroz, a partir de conceitos do materialismo histórico. Analisa
a obra em si e seu diálogo com a conjuntura europeia da época que
trata a narrativa, notadamente a dicotomia entre a civilização urbana
da segunda Revolução Industrial, personificada na cidade de Paris, e o
mundo rural representado pelas serras portuguesas como sua antítese.
This article analyzes the novel “A cidade e as serras” (the
city and the mountains) of Eça de Queiroz, under the perspective of
the history of literature, and from concepts of historical materialism.
Analyzes the work itself and its dialogue with the European situation
of the time dealing with the narrative, namely the dichotomy between
urban civilization of the second Industrial Revolution, personified in
the city of Paris, and the rural world represented by the Portuguese
mountains as its antithesis.
