Abstract:
Planaltina é o único núcleo urbano do Distrito Federal
preexistente à construção de Brasília. Como tal, foi tanto objeto
de descrições e estudos quanto berço de autores que, nos séculos
XX e XXI, têm retratado a cidade segundo seus conhecimentos,
preocupações e interesses. Neste artigo, os relatos produzidos em e
sobre Planaltina são estudados não pelo seu conteúdo factual, mas
como testemunhos desses interesses. Os textos são classificados neste
artigo de acordo com os ciclos históricos abordados, sendo estes as
narrativas inaugurais celebrando as origens do povoamento local,
a consolidação do núcleo urbano e sua modernização, e os desafios
socioculturais provocados pelo crescimento da capital federal. Percebe-
se, nesse acervo de relatos, frequente reprodução de anedotas míticas
sobre as origens da cidade e o papel de certas famílias, assim como
discursos buscando afirmar a legitimidade de seus emissores perante
a oposição ou a omissão personificadas pela narrativa dominante em
torno da cidade de Brasília e de seu governo.
Planaltina is the only urban settlement within the
Brazilian Federal District limits that predates the construction of the
nation’s capital, Brasilia. As such, it was both the object of descriptions
and studies and the birthplace of writers who, during the 20th and 21st
centuries, wrote about the town according to their own knowledge,
concerns, and interests. These writings are here categorized according to the historic cycles they describe, namely, inaugural narratives
celebrating the origins of the settlement, the consolidation of the town
and its modernization, and the sociocultural stresses brought about by
the growth of the national capital. This ensemble of writings frequently
contains the reproduction of mythical anecdotes abou the origins of
the town and the role played by certain families, as well as discourses
seeking to assert the legitimacy of their authors against the opposition
or ommission embodied in the dominant narrative regarding the city of
Brasilia and its government.
