Óbitos por doenças respiratórias em Pelotas/RS: uma abordagem geográfica

Abstract

Esta dissertação insere-se no campo da Geografia da Saúde e busca se diferenciar da maioria das pesquisas realizadas em áreas de clima tropical típico ou tropical úmido, que versam sobre doenças infecto-parasitárias ou doenças cardiovasculares. A pesquisa que segue, estuda através de análises de correlações de dados, uma relação entre as variações atmosféricas de temperaturas e os óbitos que tiveram como causa básica doenças respiratórias em uma área de estudo que se caracteriza por ter um clima subtropical úmido. O objetivo que tange esta pesquisa é analisar essas possíveis relações entre as ocorrências de mortes por doenças respiratórias e as variações de temperaturas médias, máximas e mínimas mensais e sazonais, assim como as ondas de frio e as ondas de calor, mensais e sazonais, no período entre 2008 e 2013. O recorte espacial é a sede do município de Pelotas, dividido em sete regiões administrativas urbanas: Areal, Barragem, Três Vendas, São Gonçalo, Fragata, Centro e Laranjal. O município localiza-se no Rio Grande do Sul, estado de clima subtropical, caracterizado pela zona temperada. A pesquisa cruza dados meteorológicos de temperatura disponíveis para o município, com os dados sobre os óbitos por doenças respiratórias. A hipótese que fundamenta a pesquisa é de que as causas de óbitos elencadas podem estar relacionadas às variáveis climáticas e suas flutuações, a qual ser humano está exposto. Os estudos mostram que existe uma relação entre as temperaturas médias, máximas e mínimas e as ondas de calor e as ondas de frio com os óbitos por doenças respiratórias na cidade de Pelotas.

This paper belongs to Geography of Health and tries to differ from the majority of the researches that have been made in typical tropical climate or tropical humid climate that concern to infectious and parasitic diseases or cardiovascular diseases. The research tries to show the relationship between the atmospheric variations of temperatures and the deaths which are caused by respiratory diseases in a field which has a humid subtropical climate. The aim of this research is to analyze these possible reactions between the deaths caused by respiratory diseases and the variations of the average, high and low temperatures and seasonal and monthly temperatures, as well as the month and seasonal cold waves and heat waves, during the period between 2008 and 2013. The space is the city of Pelotas, which is divided in seven administrative urban regions: Areal, Barragem, Três Vendas, São Gonçalo, Fragata, Centro and Laranjal. The city is located in Rio Grande do Sul State, which has a subtropical climate, featured by a seasoned zone. The research crosses the meteorological data of the city with the data on deaths caused by respiratory diseases. The hypothesis that motivates the research is that the reasons for the deaths can be related to climate change and its fluctuations when a person is exposed to it. The studies show that there is a relationship between the average, high and low temperature and the heat and cold waves with the deaths caused by respiratory diseases in the city of Pelotas.
