Abstract:
O objetivo da presente pesquisa consiste na investigação de fatores e processos que contribuíram para a formação da atual configuração urbana em uma parcela da periferia do município do Rio Grande - RS, decorrente da refuncionalização do espaço do antigo Hipódromo do município. Tal área hoje abriga novas e distintas atividades, buscam-se assim possíveis evidencias da formação de uma centralidade urbana. A escolha da área de estudo dá continuidade ao trabalho desenvolvido durante a graduação acadêmica, que analisou aspectos da formação sócio espacial e urbana da área do entorno daquele local durante seus quase oitenta anos de atividades. O espaço atualmente abriga novas funções, dentre elas um Shopping Center de médio porte e em outra parcela da área quatro novos condomínios residenciais, além de dispositivos urbanos compostos por um centro de esporte e cultura e também uma escola de artes, musica e teatro. A pesquisa trabalhou com a hipótese de que essa refuncionalização do espaço conferiu aos indivíduos novas formas de relacionamento com espaço, induzidas pelo adensamento das atividades, atraídas pelo empreendimento do Shopping Center e o acréscimo populacional dos condomínios. Os procedimentos metodológicos adotados basearam-se no estudo da estruturação da área e na análise de dados e informações levantadas em campo através da realização de entrevistas e observações, bem como a identificação de possíveis novas atividades surgidas a partir dessas modificações. A pesquisa qualitativa buscou evidenciar os aspectos físicos e socioeconômicos, alicerçados nas referencias bibliográficas e conceitos fundamentais de produção espaço urbano e a formação de centralidades urbanas nortearam as investigações desenvolvidas no estudo de caso apresentado. Buscou-se também, através da análise empírica identificar elementos e ações diversificadas com vistas à oferta de comercio e serviços no entorno de centros comerciais (Shopping Centers) que atraem para o seu entorno outras atividades que visam beneficiar-se da aglomeração e movimentação mais intensa nessas áreas.
The objective of this research is to investigate factors and processes that contributed to the formation of the current urban configuration in a portion of the periphery of the city of Rio Grande - RS, due to the refunctionalization of the space of the old hippodrome of the city. This area today houses new and distinct activities, thus seeking possible evidence of the formation of an urban centrality. The choice of area of study continues the work developed during the undergraduate degree, which analyzed aspects of the socio-spatial and urban formation of the area surrounding that place during its almost eighty years of activities. The space currently houses new functions, including a midsize shopping center and in another portion of the area four new residential condominiums, as well as urban devices consisting of a sports and culture center and also a school of arts, music and theater. The research worked with the hypothesis that this refunctionalization of space gave individuals new forms of relationship with space, induced by the intensification of activities, attracted by the Shopping Center venture and the population increase of condominiums. The methodological procedures adopted were based on the study of the structuring of the area and on the analysis of data and information gathered in the field through interviews and observations, as well as the identification of possible new activities arising from these modifications. The qualitative research sought to highlight the physical and socioeconomic aspects, based on bibliographic references and fundamental concepts of urban space production and the formation of urban centralities guided the investigations developed in the case study presented.
