Avaliação de desempenho do modelo WW3 em Santa Catarina

Abstract

O modelo WW3 foi usado para reconstituir o estado do mar ao largo da ilha de SC durante o período de funcionamento do Programa de Informação Costeira (PIC) da UFSC. Comparações entre as medições do PIC e as modelações do WW3 através de parâmetros estatísticos normalmente utilizados para esse fim permitiram avaliar a qualidade da reconstituição. Foram testadas implementações do modelo WW3 com diferentes configurações de grade, com 2 batimetrias diferentes da plataforma continental (ETOPO e GEBCO) e com diferentes resoluções angulares para o espectro. A configuração com melhores resultados foi a que usou uma grade regional aninhada numa grade global. As batimetrias e a resolução angular não afetaram significativamente os resultados. Uma comparação dessa reconstituição com similares publicadas na literatura indicou que o nível de precisão alcançado nesse trabalho é comparável ao obtido por outros autores.WW3 model was used to reconstruct sea state conditions off Santa Catarina island during the period when the Coastal Information Program (PIC) of UFSC was operating. Comparisons between PIC measurements and WW3 modeling through statistical parameters normally utilized to that end permitted the evaluation of the quality of the reconstruction. Implementations of WW3 with different grid configurations, with 2 different continental shelf bathymetries (ETOPO and GEBCO) and with different spectral angular resolutions were tested. The configuration which showed the best results was one that used a regional grid nested in a global grid. The bathymetries and the angular resolution did not significantly affect the results. A comparison of this reconstruction with similar ones published in the literature indicated that the level of precision achieved by the present work was comparable to those obtained by other authors.
