Abstract:
Esta dissertação tem por objetivo a análise do fantástico como aspecto essencial na
trama do romance The ocean at the end of the lane (2013), de Neil Gaiman, bem como
contribuir para a inserção do autor na história da literatura. O capítulo teórico se baseia
nas teorias de David Roas e Tzvetan Todorov, entre outros pesquisadores da área da
literatura fantástica. A partir dessas teorias forma-se a análise da obra escolhida de
forma a evidenciar as passagens que mais se aproximam do fantástico.
This thesis aims to analyse the fantastic as an essential aspect of the plot in the novel
The ocean at the end of the lane (2013), by Neil Gaiman, as well as contribute to
Gaiman’s inclusion in the history of literature. The theoretical chapter of this study is
supported by the theories of David Roas and Tzvetan Todorov, among others, in the
area of fantastic literature. Coming from these theories, we form the a analysis of the
chosen work, bringing to evidence the passages that are closest to the fantastic.
