Literatura afro-brasileira e resistência: relações possíveis no romance Ponciá Vicêncio

Abstract

A presente pesquisa investiga o caráter intrínseco da resistência na literatura afro-brasileira a partir do romance Ponciá Vicêncio (2017), de Conceição Evaristo. Para isso, revisam-se as contribuições teóricas que permitiram a conceitualização de literatura afro-brasileira enquanto expressão de um local discursivo distinto, ainda que em constante diálogo, com a literatura brasileira. Nesse sentido, discute-se a representação do negro ao longo da história da literatura brasileira em contraste com a literatura afro-brasileira, tendo em vista o sistema híbrido em que ambas se desenvolvem e o discurso da diferença que permite especificação da segunda. Para definir literatura afro-brasileira parte-se das considerações de Duarte (2014); para tratar da representação negra na literatura utilizam-se os apontamentos de Proença Filho (2004); e para apontar o caráter híbrido dessa literatura retoma-se a obra de Bhabha (1998). A articulação entre o ético e o estético, conforme apontado por Bosi (1996) ao definir narrativa resistência, guia a análise de Ponciá Vicêncio (2017). Através da presença dos pressupostos estabelecidos por Duarte (2014), que permitem sua inserção na literatura afro-brasileira, investiga-se como a resistência se traduz no romance. Em vista disso, aponta-se a resistência como parte integrante do projeto literário de Conceição Evaristo e como elemento indissociável da literatura afro-brasileira.

This research investigates the resistance as intrinsic to the Afro-Brazilian literature through the novel Ponciá Vicêncio (2017), by Conceição Evaristo. To do so, we review the academic contributions that allowed the conceptualization of Afro-Brazilian literature as an expression of a distinct place of speech from that of Brazilian literature, although in constant dialogue with it. In this sense, we examine the representation of black people throughout the history of Brazilian literature in contrast with the Afro-Brazilian. While doing so, we take into account the hybrid system in which both are developed and the articulation of difference that allows the particularization of the second one. To define Afro-Brazilian literature, we use the considerations of Duarte (2014); to talk about the representation of black people throughout Brazilian literature we quote Proença Filho (2004); and to point out the hybrid character of this literature we resume the work of Bhabha (1998). The articulation between the ethic and the aesthetic, as pointed out by Bosi (1996) when defining narratives of resistance, guides the analysis of Ponciá Vicêncio (2017). Through the presence of the prerequisites established by Duarte (2014) to allow the insertion of an author or a novel in the Afro-Brazilian literature, we investigate how the resistance is translated in Evaristos novel. Thus, we point out the resistance as an integral part of Conceição Evaristos literary project and as an indistinguishable component of the Afro-Brazilian literature.
