Abstract:
Nesta tese pretendo analisar a circulação de obras literárias em Rio Grande (RS), uma vez que a cidade caracterizava-se, no século XIX, como um centro cultural, no qual os habitantes liam e possuíam livros em suas bibliotecas. O recorte temporal que utilizo compreende, majoritariamente, a segunda metade do século, pois o número de livros e de leitores cresce, devido à existência de um público consumidor e também pelas condições econômicas e tecnológicas favoráveis à circulação de livros. Dessa forma, busco, neste estudo, expor um perfil do leitor rio-grandino, analisando a literatura e os seus polissistemas (ZOHAR, 1990), através da análise da presença de obras literárias em inventários, nos acervos dos livreiros, dos romances disponíveis no Gabinete de Leitura e, principalmente, dos folhetins publicados nos periódicos locais, por meio de reflexões acerca das traduções de autores europeus, com destaque para os franceses, e sobre as obras de autores locais que se valeram dos romances que liam e que traduziam para criar textos que se aproximassem dos folhetins de grande sucesso. Proponho-me, portanto, a vislumbrar a literatura através dos pressupostos da leitura, da circulação de impressos numa perspectiva que evidencia a globalização da cultura, a partir dos estudos de Abreu (2016), Oliveira (2016), Mollier (2016), etc., já no Oitocentos, com intuito de repensar as matrizes nacionalistas e regionais consagradas pela História da Literatura.
In this thesis, I intend to analyze the circulation of literary works in Rio Grande (RS), as the city was characterized in the nineteenth century as a cultural center in which the inhabitants read and owned books in their libraries. Therefore, I aim in this study to present a profile of the Rio-grandino reader, analyzing the literature and its polysystems (ZOHAR, 1990), through the analysis of the presence of literary works in inventories, in booksellers' books, in the novels available in the Reading Office, and especially in the serials published in local periodicals, through reflections on the translations of European authors, especially the French, and on the works of local authors who used the novels they read and translated to create texts that were similar to successful serials. I propose, therefore, to foresee literature through the postulates of reading, the circulation of printed matter in a perspective that evidences the globalization of culture, from the studies of Abreu (2016), Oliveira (2016), Mollier (2016), etc., already in the eight hundreds, in order to rethink the nationalist and regional matrices established by the History of Literature.
