Abstract:
A Proposta de implantação de Bibliotecas Populares apresentada por um grupo de intelectuais ao Prefeito do Recife, durante o Estado Novo, foi tecida com vista à realização de uma rede de bibliotecas que atendesse às necessidades socioeconômicas e culturais da população de bairros. A realização do projeto, com bibliotecários, uma década depois do lançamento da ideia, repercutiu favoravelmente entre os usuários. O objetivo foi demonstrar como a Proposta de Implantação de Bibliotecas Populares foi instituída e como as bibliotecas foram construídas pela Diretoria de Estatística, Propaganda e Turismo (DEPT), da Prefeitura Municipal do Recife. A abordagem epistemológica procurou compreender as condições sociopolíticas e institucionais que levaram um grupo de intelectuais a definir a trajetória das bibliotecas na cidade. A pesquisa documental serviu de base para delinear, constituir e dar significado à Proposta. Das cinco unidades implantadas restaram apenas duas, edificadas especialmente para atender aos objetivos da Proposta.
The Proposal for the implementation of Popular Libraries presented by a group of intellectuals to the Mayor of Recife, during the Estado Novo, was woven with a view to creating a network of libraries that would meet the socioeconomic and cultural needs of the population of neighborhoods. The realization of the project, with librarians, a decade after the idea was launched, reverberated favorably among users. Objective: to demonstrate how the Proposal for the implementation of Popular Libraries was established and how the libraries were built by the Statistics, Advertising and Tourism Directorate (DEPT), of the Municipality of Recife. The epistemological approach sought to understand the socio-political and institutional conditions that led a group of intellectuals to define the trajectory of libraries in the city. The documentary research served as a basis to outline, build and give meaning to the Proposal. Of the five units implemented, only two remain, built especially tomeet the objectives of the Proposal.
