Abstract:
O presente trabalho tem dois objetivos integrados: o primeiro diz respeito à apresentação da obra de Dorothy Camargo Gallo, escritora contemporânea, natural de Rio Grande (RS); e o segundo, refere-se à análise do romance de formação (Bildungsroman) O amanhã de tanta espera (1991). A obra é abordada em suas duas dimensões: o pacto narrativo entre a autora e
as/os leitoras/es e a temática, na perspectiva da Crítica Literária Feminista. Apesar de uma produção literária numerosa e diversificada, composta por radionovelas, um monólogo, duas peças teatrais, três livros de contos, três novelas e dois romances, sua obra tem pouca circulação, uma vez que ainda não foi estudada no âmbito acadêmico. A metodologia empregada, tanto nos comentários à obra em geral quanto na análise do romance, é de natureza bibliográfica. O tema predominante na obra de Gallo é a construção de um universo feminino habitado por protagonistas que fogem aos estereótipos delineados para a mulher numa sociedade patriarcal. O romance O amanhã de tanta espera é ambientado na cidade do Rio Grande e enfoca a vida da protagonista – Mariana –, da adolescência à idade madura, sobre um pano de fundo composto pelos valores e a cultura própria dos anos sessenta do século XX. Para um traçado mais nítido de sua trajetória, este estudo assenta-se num viés sociológico, na medida em que se faz necessário observar as relações existentes entre a (re)criação desse período histórico e algumas situações reais. A busca pela realização amorosa, em oposição às contingências impositivas do sistema familiar e social, emerge como
o conflito central. Ao tentar conciliar as conquistas pessoais com o casamento e a
maternidade, Mariana precisa optar entre o amor e a submissão à família e à sociedade. Além de conceitos tais quais gênero, cânone, gênero literário e categorias narrativas, a análise fundamenta-se, em especial, no pensamento de Simone de Beauvoir, com a obra O segundo sexo (1980), e Elódia Xavier, com Declínio do patriarcado: a família no imaginário feminino (1998). Ambas discutem a situação da mulher e suas transgressões na perspectiva da sociedade patriarcal: a primeira, no âmbito histórico e a segunda, no literário. O processo de aprendizado de Mariana mostra que ela refuta os papéis sociais preestabelecidos. Por força do
jogo lúdico e do final aberto, sobre os quais se estrutura a diegese, os questionamentos acerca da ideologia de gênero em O amanhã de tanta espera conduzem a reflexões que focalizam a posição da mulher na sociedade, além de reafirmar o papel transformador do Bildungsroman de autoria feminina. A obra de Dorothy Camargo Gallo em geral e este romance em particular contribuem de forma consistente no alargamento das fronteiras da série literária riograndense.
This dissertation is based on two integrated goals: the first refers to the presentation of Dorothy Camargo Gallo´s work, a contemporary writer born in Rio Grande (RS, Brazil); the second deals with the analysis of O amanhã de tanta espera (1991), a development novel (Bildungsroman). Such a novel is approached from its two dimensions: the narrative deal between the writer and her readers and the theme, from the perspective of the Literary Feminist Criticism. In spite of a massive and diversified literary production formed by radio plays, one monologue, two theatrical plays, three books of short-stories, three novellas and two novels, her work does not circulate much due to the fact that it has not been studied
within the academic scope. The methodology used both in the comments on the work in
general and in the analysis of the novel is of bibliographic nature. The predominant theme of Gallo´s work is the building of a female universe inhabited by protagonists that run from the sketched stereotypes of a woman within a patriarchal society. The environment of the novel O amanhã de tanta espera is the city of Rio Grande and it focuses on the protagonist’s life, Mariana - from adolescence up to adulthood – on a background composed by the values and
the culture that characterize the sixties of the twentieth century. In order to achieve a sharper outline of her trajectory, this study settles on a sociologic slope whenever it is necessary to observe the relationships between the (re)creation of this historical period and some actual situations. The search for the loving realization in opposition to the imposing contingencies of the familiar and social systems emerges as the main conflict. Whenever she tries to conciliate
her personal conquests with marriage and maternity, Mariana has to choose between love and her submission to the family and the society. Besides the concepts of gender, canon, genre and narrative categories, the analysis establishes mainly on The second sex (1980), by Simone de Beauvoir and Declínio do patriarcado: a família no imaginário feminino (1998), by Elódia Xavier. Both writers examine the woman´s situation and her transgressions from the perspective of a patriarchial society: the first, within the historical scope; the second, the literary one. Mariana´s development process shows that she refutes preestablished social roles. Due to the power of the ludic play and open end of the novel that sustains the diegesis
the questionings on the ideology of gender, in O amanhã de tanta espera, lead to thoughts
that focus on the woman´s position in society, besides restating the transforming role of a female Bildungsroman. Gallo´s work in general and this novel in particular contribute consistently for the borders enlargement of the literary series in Rio Grande do Sul.
