Abstract:
Este trabalho objetiva compreender a prática de empréstimos interpessoais mediada por um
ambiente online, caso da comunidade virtual “Livro Viajante”. Inserindo o fenômeno em uma
perspectiva biblioteconômica, procura-se compreender tanto questões de caráter normativo da
comunidade, quanto da percepção dos participantes sobre seu funcionamento, verificando-se
por quais motivos os membros do grupo o preferem para a realização de empréstimos aos
realizados por bibliotecas. Para isso, foi realizada uma abordagem etnográfica que consistiu
em imersão na comunidade durante sete meses, valendo-se das técnicas de observação
participante e entrevistas com os sujeitos. Com o auxílio do aporte teórico dos estudos de
cibercultura, foi possível refletir sobre aspectos afetivos e simbólicos de uma comunidade em
meio virtual, para além da simples descrição de seu funcionamento. Verificou-se que, apesar
da dinâmica observada ser uma forma de circulação da informação e estar bastante
relacionada à ampla noção de biblioteca, ela não é reconhecida como tal por seus
participantes. Sua estrutura complexa de funcionamento, organizada pelos próprios leitores
interessados, a torna uma forma distinta de circulação da informação e, mais do que isso, de
compartilhamento de leituras.
This study aims to understand the practice of interpersonal loans mediated by online
environments, in which the virtual community "Livro Viajante" is an example. Inserting the
phenomenon in a Library Science perspective, we seek to understand both normative issues of
the community, as the perception of the participants about their operation, verifying reasons
for which members of the group prefer performing lendings to those made by libraries. For
this, an ethnographic approach that consisted of an immersion in the community for seven
months, took advantage of the techniques of participant observation and interviews with the
subjects. With the aid of a theoretical contribution of cyberculture studies, it was possible to
reflect on affective and symbolic aspects of a virtual community beyond the simple
description of its operation. It was found that the observed dynamics is a way of circulating
information and is closely related to the broad concept of a library, but it is not recognized as
such by their participants. Its complex structure of operation, organized by the interested
readers, makes this community a distinct form of information circulation, and more than that,
of sharing of readings.
