Em O livro da vida, Teresa Sanchez de Cepeda y Ahumada descreve os comportamentos que tantas vezes a levaram aos tribunais da Inquisição, mas, mais do que isso, registra sua própria versão da intensa disputa entre o divino e o diabólico, a vida e morte, no corpo e no espírito de uma mulher na Espanha do século XVI. Analisado sob a ótica da escrita feminina, dos gêneros autobiográficos e do erotismo, tal livro adquire nova relevância histórica e literária e a figura de Santa Teresa D’Ávila renova seu impacto sobre o imaginário e o pensamento contemporâneos.
In The life of saint Teresa D’Avila by herself, Teresa Sanchez de Cepeda y Ahumada describes the reasons why she was so many times persecuted by the Inquisition, but, more than that, she registers her own version of the intense dispute between divine and diabolic, life and death, over body and spirit of a woman from 16th century in Spain. Analyzed under the scope of women’s writing, autobiographical genres and eroticism, this book acquires new historical and literary relevance and Saint Teresa D’Avila figure renews her impact upon the imaginary and contemporaneous thinking.
