Ulisses dos muitos retornos : uma história do clássico

Abstract

Este trabalho analisa a evolução das figurações literárias de Ulisses de sua base arcaica às primeiras figurações renascentistas, com indícios para a análise das figurações do contemporâneo. Desenvolvendo reflexões de teóricos como Aby Warburg, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Hans Robert Jauss e Salvatore Settis, o estudo é orientado por uma concepção hermenêutica do "clássico" enquanto forma de mediação da alteridade do antigo e propõe uma história desta literatura concentrada nos efeitos e nas recuperações do material antigo. Em particular, é ressaltada a inserção do material homérico em um *continuum* de literaturas antigas, fortemente pautado no material oriental, o progressivo aviltamento de Ulisses na literatura grega e seu resgate pela filosofia, o horizonte de expectativa que orientou sua recepção em Roma e sua recuperação por Dante no contexto das singulares narrativas mediolatinas sobre a Guerra de Tróia, a qual facultou a reinvenção desta figura no Renascimento e na modernidade.

This thesis analyzes the evolution of the literary figurations of Ulysses from their archaic base to the first figurations of the Renaissance, giving indications for the analysis of contemporary figurations. Developing on the work of theorists such as Aby Warburg, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Hans Robert Jauss, and Salvatore Settis, the study is guided by a hermeneutic conception of "classic" as a form of mediation of the otherness of Antiquity, and it proposes a history of this literature focused on the effects and on the recovery of ancient material. The study highlights, in particular, the inclusion of the Homeric material into a *continuum* of ancient literatures, strongly dependent on Eastern material, the progressive debasement of Ulysses in Greek literature and his redemption by philosophy, the horizon of expectation that guided his reception in Rome, and his recover by Dante in the context of the unique medieval Latin narratives on the Trojan War, which allowed the reinvention of this figure during the Renaissance and the Modernity.
