Abstract:
Ao completar 120 anos, em 2020, a Biblioteca FAMED/HCPA, vinculada à Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) e ao Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA), comemora sua prestigiosa trajetória. Este artigo, mediante pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, apresenta alguns eventos marcantes do seu percurso, como notas sobre o seu fundador e os bibliotecários que nela atuaram, além dedados sobre a formação e a organização do acervo e do espaço físico, com o objetivo de narrar fatos e preencher lacunas de sua história. Além disso, por ser uma das poucas bibliotecas da área médica, no Brasil, a presenciar as duas maiores pandemias registradas na história da humanidade, buscou-se contextualizar sua atuação nos cenários da pandemia da Gripe espanhola(1918) e da Covid-19(2020). O resgate histórico permite ampliar o conhecimento institucional e compreender as mudanças no papel da Biblioteca ao longo do tempo.
Upon reaching 120 years in 2020, the FAMED/HCPA Library, linked to the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA), celebrates its prestigious history. This paper, by means of documentary and bibliographic research, highlights some milestones in the Library history, such as notes about its founder and librarians who worked at it, as well as some information on the acquisition and organization of the collection and the facilities that house the collection. The FAMED/HCPA Library was one of the few of its kind in Brazil to bear witness to two of the largest pandemics in recorded history, the Spanish Flu and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Because of that, in this paper we sought to contextualize its performance in those periods. We believe that recalling these events deepens institutional self-awareness and the understanding of the Library's mission.
