Abstract:
Este estudo teve como objetivo averiguar o perfil, habilidades e competências dos
bibliotecários que atuam em bibliotecas universitárias especializadas na área da
saúde no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para tanto, apresenta um breve histórico
das bibliotecas e o crescimento acelerado no uso de informações nos últimos anos,
abordando a necessidade de especialização, por parte do bibliotecário, em áreas do
conhecimento conforme seu ramo de atuação. Apresenta fontes de informação da
área da saúde e ressalta a importância do uso de bases de dados desta área como
um dos mecanismos primordiais para execução das buscas com qualidade e
rapidez. Diferencia a Biblioteconomia Médica da Biblioteconomia vinculada ao
ambiente acadêmico da área da saúde e demonstra a função do bibliotecário da
área da saúde. A pesquisa, de natureza quanti-qualitativa, utilizou como instrumento
para coleta de dados um questionário contendo 17 questões, enviado por e-mail aos
bibliotecários das instituições selecionadas. Os resultados obtidos apontam a
necessidade de educação continuada por parte dos profissionais bibliotecários que
atuam na área da saúde.
This study had as objective to investigate the profile, abilities and competences of the
librarians that work in academic libraries specialized in healthcare in the state of Rio
Grande do Sul. In order to do so, it presents a brief history of the libraries and the
rapid growth in the use of information in the last years, addressing the need for
specialization, by the librarian, in areas of knowledge according to their area of
operation. It shows information sources of the health area and highlights the
importance of the use of databases of this area as one of the primary mechanisms
for performing searches with quality and speed. It differentiates Medical Librarianship
from the Librarianship linked to the academic environment of the health area and
demonstrates the role of the librarian in the health field. The research, having
quantitative and qualitative nature, used as an instrument for data collection a
questionnaire containing 17 questions, sent by e-mail to the librarians of the selected
institutions. The results point the need for continuing education on the part of
librarians who work in healthcare.
