Abstract:
Neste artigo pretende-se pôr em relevo a importância numérica e
qualitativa das caricaturas publicadas sobre Portugal na Europa e nas
Américas no último trimestre de 1910, depois da queda da Casa Bragança
e a proclamação da república, num continente então largamente dominado
pelos regimes monárquicos. Os principais temas são: D. Manuel e o antigo
regime, a influência da religião e da maçonaria, a atitude dos outros
estados europeus, o papel do povo e o futuro da nova república.
This study highlights the numerical and qualitative importance of
caricatures published about Portugal in Europe and the Americas in the
last quarter of 1910, after the fall of the House of Braganza and the
proclamation of the republic, in a continent so largely dominated by
monarchical regimes. The main topics are: D. Manuel and the old regime,
the influence of religion and freemasonry, the attitude of other European
states, the role of people and the future of the new republic.
