Infografia com gráficos e a compreensão de informações estatísticas midiáticas

Abstract

Com o crescente volume de dados, os veículos de comunicação têm utilizado diferentes recursos para resumir grande quantidade de informação. Um desses recursos, é a infografia, que por meio de texto verbal (escrito) e texto não verbal (gráficos, mapas, ilustrações, entre outras imagens), busca apresentar a informação de forma visivelmente atraente, dinâmica e compreensível ao leitor. Nas mídias impressa e digital, gráficos, tabelas e medidas estatísticas são frequentemente utilizadas para sintetizar e melhor apresentar questões sociais, econômicas e ambientais, com o intuito de facilitar a leitura e a compreensão da informação que a notícia descreve. Assim, na presente pesquisa de mestrado objetivamos investigar a seguinte questão: Como a infografia com gráficos pode contribuir na compreensão de informações estatísticas midiáticas?. Para tal, o corpus de análise foi constituído das respostas de estudantes do Ensino Superior, dos cursos de Licenciatura em Matemática e Bacharelado em Administração da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande - FURG, a dois questionários, nos quais buscamos caracterizar os sujeitos de pesquisa e levantar as suas compreensões a respeito das informações apresentadas em um infográfico sobre a Violência Urbana, publicado na revista Superinteressante. Para subsidiar esta investigação buscamos aporte na Teoria de Processamento Humano de Informações Visuais, proposta por Stephen Michael Kosslyn, e na Semiótica Geral cunhada por Charles Sanders Peirce. A primeira teoria apresenta propriedades para elaboração da representação gráfica, de modo a priorizar as capacidades de percepção, memória e habilidades conceituais do leitor. A segunda propõe o estudo de todos os signos inerentes as linguagens e dos pensamentos como formas de percepção dos signos na consciência. Com esta investigação verificamos a potencialidade da infografia com gráficos na comunicação de informações estatísticas, revelando a necessidade de esta ser construída em conformidade com a percepção e o processamento de informações visuais, de modo que o arranjo das representações visuais (signos) facilite a compreensão do leitor. Também constatamos a emergência do conhecimento de conceitos estatísticos tanto à formação do produtor, quanto do leitor destas informações, evidenciando a necessidade de pesquisas, na área da Educação, com abordagem na infografia com gráficos.

With the increasing volume of data, communication vehicles has used different features to summarize large amounts of information. One of these resources is the infographic, which through verbal (written) text and non-verbal text (graphics, maps, illustrations, among other images) seeks to present the information in a visibly attractive, dynamic and understandable way to the reader. In printed and digital media, graphs, tables and statistical measures are often used to synthesize and better present social, economic and environmental issues, in order to in facilitate the reading and understanding of the information that the news describes. Thus, the present research of masters aims to investigate the following question: How the infographics with graphs can contribute in the understanding of statistical information media?. To that end, the corpus of analysis was composed of the answers of students of Higher Education, of the courses of Degree in Mathematics and Bachelor Degree of Administration of the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG, to two questionnaires, in which we sought to characterize the subjects of research and raise his insights about the information presented in an infographic about Urban Violence, published in the magazine Superinteressante. To support this research, we seek input in the Theory of Human Processing of Visual Information, proposed by Stephen Michael Kosslyn, and in General Semiotics coined by Charles Sanders Peirce. The first theory presents properties for the elaboration of the graphic representation, in order to prioritize the capacities of perception, memory and conceptual abilities of the reader. The second proposes the study of all signs inherent in languages and thoughts as forms of perception of signs in consciousness. With this investigation, we verified the potential of with an approach in infographics with graphs with the communication of statistical information, revealing the need for it to be constructed in accordance with the perception and processing of visual information, so that the arrangement of visual representations (signs) facilitate the reader's comprehension. We also verified the emergence of knowledge of statistical concepts both for the training of the producer and the reader of this information, evidencing the need for research in the area of Education, with an approach in infographics with graphs.
